About the Program

More than a camp —
it's a real build.

Learn Build Ride is a 3-week summer STEM experience for middle and high school students in Redondo Beach. Students don't just learn about engineering — they live it, working through real problems to build a functional electric bike from the ground up.

The Takeaway

Build it.
Keep it.

Every student completes the program with a fully working e-bike they built with their own hands. Not a kit. Not a simulation. A real machine.

Learn · Build · Ride

Three weeks, one complete journey. Each week builds directly on the last — from understanding the science, to assembling the machine, to riding away on something you made.

Week One
01

Learn

Students explore the science behind electric bikes — how motors, batteries, circuits, and mechanics come together to move a machine.

  • How motors convert electricity to motion
  • Battery chemistry and energy storage
  • Basic circuits and wiring diagrams
  • Physics of torque and momentum
Week Two
02

Build

Hands on the bike. Students assemble every component, wire the system, and troubleshoot like real engineers solving real problems.

  • Frame prep and drivetrain assembly
  • Motor and battery installation
  • Controller wiring and testing
  • Safety checks and quality control
Week Three
03

Ride

The bikes are live. Students test, tune, and take their first real ride — then take it home. The project is complete and the bike is theirs.

  • Test ride and performance tuning
  • Safety certification
  • Project showcase with families
  • Your e-bike goes home with you

Doing beats watching.
Every time.

When students build something real, the learning sticks in a way no lecture can replicate. The act of solving a problem with your hands — wiring a circuit, troubleshooting a motor — creates understanding that lives in muscle memory, not just notes.

Classroom instruction tells you how something works. Building it teaches you why it matters. Learn Build Ride is designed around that difference.

of what we learn by doing is retained, compared to roughly 5% from lecture alone — Edgar Dale's Cone of Experience

Students in project-based learning programs show greater gains in critical thinking and problem-solving than traditional instruction

1

Real project completed. Not a simulation. Not a worksheet. A fully functional electric bike that you built yourself.

"I had a blast and learned so much — way more than I expected. I'd highly recommend this to anyone who wants to actually build something real."
